"The thyroid gland helps to regulate the body's metabolism by controlling the production of proteins and tissue use of oxygen. Any thyroid imbalance can therefore affect hair follicles", Anabel explains. Also, if hypothyroidism is left untreated it may result in anaemia, which - as we've just discussed - is another condition that can impact the hair (or lack of it).
According to the US National Institutes of Health (NIH), the standard American source on stem cell research, three characteristics of stem cells differentiate them from other cell types: (1) they are unspecialized cells that (2) divide for long periods, renewing themselves and (3) can give rise to specialized cells, such as muscle and skin cells, under particular physiological and experimental conditions. When allowed to grow in particular environments, stem cells divide many times. This ability to proliferate can yield millions of stem cells over several months. As long as the stem cells remain unspecialized, meaning they lack tissue-specific structures, they are able to sustain long-term self-renewal.
The crew cut is a hairstyle we’ve already written about in our article regarding army haircuts. Well, here it is again. You might already be seeing a theme popping up here – short haircuts tend to work better with receding hairlines (not to say there aren’t any other options!). This cut is clean, low-maintenance, and won’t harm your appearance. Short haircuts do tend to bring a lot of attention to other parts of your face though, especially its shape, so you might want to have a think about whether this will work for you before you trim almost all of your hair off.
When the body is under stress, it produces several stress-related hormones that have negative effects on the body resulting in hair loss. Taking Centrum supplements, on the other hand, encourages the body to properly manage stress because they contain several essential vitamins and minerals strengthening and regulating the body's normal physiologic functions. There are also several pieces of research that show a deficiency in Vitamin H (Biotin) greatly results in hair loss. One of the several essential nutrients found in Centrum is Biotin, which aids in hair growth. Biotin plays a major role in regulating stress and anxiety because several functions of Biotin include regulating the cellular metabolism of the body, maintaining cell growth and aiding the nervous system and its function. In general, taking Centrum with Biotin can effectively stop hair from thinning due to stress.
Congenital triangular alopecia – It is a triangular, or oval in some cases, shaped patch of hair loss in the temple area of the scalp that occurs mostly in young children. The affected area mainly contains vellus hair follicles or no hair follicles at all, but it does not expand. Its causes are unknown, and although it is a permanent condition, it does not have any other effect on the affected individuals.[24]
Less common causes of hair loss without inflammation or scarring include the pulling out of hair, certain medications including chemotherapy, HIV/AIDS, hypothyroidism, and malnutrition including iron deficiency.[2][3] Causes of hair loss that occurs with scarring or inflammation include fungal infection, lupus erythematosus, radiation therapy, and sarcoidosis.[2][3] Diagnosis of hair loss is partly based on the areas affected.[3]
Alopecia areata is not contagious.[9] It occurs more frequently in people who have affected family members, suggesting heredity may be a factor.[9] Strong evidence of genetic association with increased risk for alopecia areata was found by studying families with two or more affected members. This study identified at least four regions in the genome that are likely to contain these genes.[14] In addition, alopecia areata shares genetic risk factors with other autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, type 1 diabetes, and celiac disease.[3] It may be the only manifestation of celiac disease.[15][16]
